Can I use my FasTrak in a friend’s car?
Sticker transponders cannot be moved from vehicle to vehicle.
Hardcase transponders can be moved from vehicle to vehicle as long as the license plate number for each vehicle is listed on your account and the transponder is properly mounted.

Can two cars use one transponder?
“Transponders can be shared between cars and motorcycles registered to the same I-PASS account, but the transponder must be properly mounted in your vehicle whenever you drive on the Tollway. Sharing a transponder puts you at risk of forgetting to move the transponder. Be safe, and put a transponder in every vehicle.
Will FasTrak work in glove box?
Put it in the designated vehicle’s glovebox and go over a bridge. They will only add it to your bill if it didn’t work. Mine makes a beep but it’s old. I keep mine in my glovebox and put it up to the window when I need it.
What states accept FasTrak?
FasTrak operates only in California.
Does FasTrak have to be mounted?
Yes. FasTrak drivers must have a transponder mounted to their vehicle’s windshield. Transponders make it easier for tolling agencies to charge the correct toll to the appropriate vehicle automatically, resulting in faster processing times with higher levels of accuracy.
Do you have to activate FasTrak?
Welcome to FasTrak®! You must register your transponders and activate your account before driving. When the activation process is complete, your transponders will be ready to use on every tolled bridge, lane and road in California and $50 in toll credits will be added to your account.
How much does FasTrak account cost?
There are no fees to open or to maintain a FasTrak account. Think of your FasTrak account as a little bank account for tolls. Your account must always have a balance, and tolls will be automatically deducted from your balance each time a toll is collected.
Can I use my FasTrak transponder in a rental car?
Yes. You can use your FasTrak toll tag in a rental car and, if you go through a toll plaza, the rental car toll payment program (Pass24®, eToll®, TollPass® or PlatePass®) will not be activated.

Standard FasTrak toll tags and the FasTrak Flex toll tags are free. There are no fees to open or to maintain a FasTrak account, regardless of the type of toll tag you use. Think of your FasTrak account as a little bank account for tolls.
What happens if I don’t have my FasTrak?
Yes. Except for the Golden Gate Bridge (see below), if you pass through a bridge toll lane without a valid FasTrak and without paying the toll, or if you travel in an express lane without a valid FasTrak tag, an image of your license plate will be captured.

All Toll Roads accounts are now called FasTrak accounts and issued sticker transponders.
How does FasTrak know if you are a carpool?
It’s your responsibility to remove the fast track and put it in the bag provided which blocks the signal keeping you from being charged. While you travel the express Lane, those without a FastTrack will trigger a warning light for cops up ahead to check and make sure you are a carpool.

The express lanes will operate from 5 am to 8 pm, Monday through Friday. They are free for all drivers on weekends and weeknights. 3-person carpools, buses, vanpools and motorcycles must use a FasTrak Flex toll tag set to 3+ to travel toll free. 2-person carpools pay a toll.
What’s the difference between FasTrak and FasTrak Flex?
FasTrak Flex toll tags work just like FasTrak Standard toll tags but have a three-position switch that can be adjusted to signal whether you are traveling as a carpool or alone. It is required for most Bay Area express lanes.
Does AAA sell FasTrak transponders?
You can visit participating AAA, Albertsons, or Costco locations to purchase your transponder at a discounted price. You must activate the transponder on a new or existing account before using Metro ExpressLanes.
